Can a laptop with WiFi connect to the internet though a cell phone with WiFi?
How costly is it ?
wifi – laptop to phone is the last choice to do a www connection because you would need a mobile phone with wifi that can act as router as well – only very few can do, I only know 1, my Nokia N900 – but only with a special “power kernel”
“normal” Nokia smart phones with wifi do NOT allow wifi to be used as a router – except the few high end models that have special software to convert your phone wifi into a wifi router.
however you can use the mobile phone’s 3G/ HSPA,broad band capability
if you have a laptop with wifi
then all you need is a wifi hotspot to connect to internet
however if there is NO wifi hotspot but you have a cellphone with 3G/ HSPA,(broad band) capability
then you can use your laptop via cell phone (what I do NOW these minutes and most of past years).
the connection to internet is via 3G/HSPA, and NOT wifi!
depending on YOUR operating system you need tools to establish a laptop to cellphone to internet connection
the normal connection methods between laptop and mobile phone can be 2 fold
best is by USB cable
second choice is by Bluetooth
for the few special mobile phones capable of turning wifi into wifi router – by wifi
the software to do so is offered by your cellphone manufacturer – usually for free
on Linux operating systems all tool to use mobile broadband are included
on windows (win7, vista, etc) you download the SW
for Nokia smart phones with 3G/HSPA,mobile broadband capability, you find the”Nokia PC Suite” on Nokia website. that Nokia PC Suite contains all the tools you need to connect laptop via nokia to internet.
other mobile phone manufacturers may offer same
the connection speed you expect entirely depends on your mobile phone network provider – I enjoy some 4 Mbps via USB cable and via bluetooth it would be limited to about 1Mbps
