Cell Phone To Home Phone
Can I walkie-talkie & dial my home phone to make phone calls instead of using a cell phone?
Can I use a technology similar to 10-4 to dial my home phone and make phone calls from it? Such a technology should exist. I know I would not be able to roam that many miles, but I am never far with my cell phone anyway. The only reason such a technology wouldn’t exist seems to me that phone companies would supress it because it would surely hurt the mobile phone industry!
Maybe you could jimmy-rig a setup by having a walkie-talkie and a voice activated phone right beside the walkie-talkie…
To build a system like you want yourself is clearly doable. It could be done with a PC with a programing language compiler, like C, installed touch tone encoders and decoders (like found on some old dial-up modems), an old phone (for its headset), a PC relay input / output card and several weeks of effort. Perhaps a better option is just to buy a long range cordless telephone. You might try the Voyager CL-2200XP AS Long Range Wireless Phone. It is claimed to have a 1 mile range indoors and 6 miles line of sight. It is legal in the USA and priced at about $600.
