Cell Phone Earpiece With Microphone
Might this be why many people talk so loudly on their cell phones?
I think it’s because they think they can’t be heard by the person they’re calling.
With traditional land-line phones in homes/offices, when you speak into the mouthpiece, part of the sound is transmitted to the earpiece — so you hear your voice a little bit in your ear. But cell phones don’t have that connection — all you hear from the earpiece is what the other person says. So, I think that when people don’t hear their own voice coming through the earpiece, they assume that the other person can’t hear them.
Do you think this is a viable theory?
Most users manuals that come with cell phones state that the microphone is quite sensitive and the user doesn’t need to shout, but most people seem to not pay any attention to that. I’ve discovered that even in a somewhat noisy environment, I can talk in a very low voice on my cell phone and the other person hears me perfectly.
